It’s that time of the month again!
And no, not your monthly visitor “Aunt Flo.” I’m talking about GLOSSYBOX!
Never mind that I’ve been slow in trying the samples from previous months, I was ecstatic when the delivery man came bearing the September box yesterday. (I still think it should be named October, as they arrive at the end of the month, but I digress.)
This month’s theme was moisturization, as well as an underlying theme of products from around the world.
As with past boxes, I took a moment to admire the packaging first. How cute is the wrapping paper this month? With the Air Mail card, it’s as if GLOSSYBOX went on a holiday and sent over goodies from their travels, don’t you think?
And as a minor observation, I noticed other countries receive the products thrown into the box by themselves, whereas in Japan, each individual product is wrapped in a sealed, clear bag. Very Japanese. (And very eco-unfriendly…but we do have a mandatory, highly elaborate recycling system here.)
My box was labeled “X” on the outer packaging. Different letters mean different variety of products in the box.
Now onto the products!
fleur et papillon // bath fizzies in claire?(Full size. 315 yen/~USD$4)
This cute box is good enough to give as a gift and includes 2 bath fizzies. I mainly take baths and especially love a long, relaxing soak in the upcoming colder months, so I’m looking forward to using this then!
Burt’s Bees // Hand Salve (Full size. 790 yen/~$10)
You can’t go wrong with Burt and his bees, I say. It smells slightly medicinal, like an ointment that has been passed down generations, so I’ll be using it as a nighttime nail/cuticle treatment.
su:m37° // Time energy Gift Set
This is a Korean skin care brand focusing on fermented plant extracts. Concept, price, and look-wise, it reminds me of SK-II and some of the products have the price tag to rival it as well. The burgundy box came with generous samples of Time energy Skin Resetting Refining Toner and Softening Essence.
su:m37° // White award Detox Mask & Secret Programming Essence
The same brand also included a foaming mask and their best-selling essence. Is it just me or do their yellow bottles look like Soju bottles? Or perhaps soy sauce?
bareMinerals // SPF 15 Original Foundation in Light
Forget the foundation…just look at the Mini Buki! I’ve never seen a brush so small. ?Standing at just 1.5 inches tall, it’s even smaller than what you see above. So cute.
TOCCA // Florence Eau de Parfum
This smells so comforting. They say it’s “reminiscent of old-world Paris” (so why is it called Florence, then?) and I agree.
The notes are: Italian bergamot, crushed violet petals, blue iris, and bottom notes of blonde wood. I actually mainly detect gardenia, even though it’s not listed. Weird.?It’s the total opposite of an ooh-la-la sexy scent. It’s floral, not too sweet once it dries down, feminine, and makes me want to curl up with a good book and macarons to nibble. I wore it to sleep last night and ?it was suitable for that purpose.
Overall, this month’s box included some cute, usable, decently sized products. There were around 1,100 yen worth of full-sized products, which is below GLOSSYBOX’s 1,500/~$20 per month price tag. Some people received products worth more, but I’m just glad I didn’t receive packet samples like some of the other boxes.
I’m frankly tired of judging whether these subscription boxes are “worth it,” though. You either like knowingly receiving random sampling of products or you don’t, and that’s entirely up to the individual.
Have you tried any of these products??Did you get a GLOSSYBOX or similar on your side of the world?
I may have to devise a plan to try these samples sooner so I don’t let them go to waste. I hope they include more makeup or non-facial samples in the future because I’m most hesitant/slow to try new skin care products on my finicky skin. Would you be interested in hearing about some of the full-sized products or first impressions on samples (like a “test drive?”)
