Men's Singles
2013/5/11 18:52
I was really looking forward to the Worlds 2013, which sadly turned out to be a big splatfest.
I predicted four skaters to be Gold contenders, but Yuzuru got injured (that broke my heart), Takahashi had jump problems, and Javier singled his Axel. Javier needed to be cleaner to outjump Patrick; and Takahashi, however great his skate is, can't shoot for the Gold without big tricks. Other men also made mistakes that were costly enough to rule themselves out, leaving Chan to be the one to beat.
Then there was a big fuss about judging controversy. I actually thought that judges made their best efforts to reward Ten. But they also did that to Patrick, and you can't have your cake and eat it, too. I was not emotionally invested enough to discuss which should have won, and just wanted to let it go.
But there were some lovely moments that I cherish, such as Joubert's lights-out, champion-like FS, Ten's skates of his life (the light feelings were almost magical), and Hanyu's miraculous FS.
