With a green polish like Julep Emilie, I’m not sure if I can still claim green as one of my least favorite colors! I own an OPI polish that I found out is basically the exact?shade of Emilie, but I’m still happy to have received this in my first Julep Maven It Girl box.
Can you guess the OPI twin?

Julep Emilie is a…green creme. I was at a complete loss of how to describe the shade, so I found this nifty online tool?where you can choose a color on their color wheel or input a hex code to find the closest color name. The result:
Pretty close, right? Deep Sea it is, then! I wouldn’t have known, but the color wheel told me it’s a blue-based green, rather than a yellow-based green when looking at greens on a rainbow spectrum.

I’m impressed with the formula of Emilie. It has a smooth consistency that applied without leaving behind any streaks or patches. Each stroke seamlessly blended together on the nails. It was so easy to control that I didn’t get any polish outside the nails, and hence, no cleanup!
It’s cremes like this that reaffirms my love of creme finishes amongst glitters, metallics, and holographic polishes. I like?bling bling as much as the next girl, but something about a high-shine, single-tone, simple creme has me staring at my nails all day.
Comparison of Julep Emilie vs. OPI Jade is the New Black
Were you able to guess the OPI twin to Emilie? It’s Jade is the New Black. Can you tell the difference between them in the above photo? No, I can’t, either. If I squint hard enough at my nails, I can see that Jade is the New Black is a hair darker and yellow-er than Emilie. But really, no one will suspect you have on two different polishes. If they can, then, well…befriend that nail polish hawk ASAP!
On a different note, I was chatting with Shopaholic about the tall, skinny Julep bottle design.
Some observations and tips:
Be careful not to knock over the bottle when painting! It easily tips over.
Wipe off excess nail polish on the stem connecting the brush to the cap. The stem and brush seem to hold a lot of polish, and you can end up applying too much at a time.
The long, skinny cap makes it easier to hold, and the brush, easier to control. The brush itself is a joy to use!
Personal, nit-picky gripe, but I wish the color names were on the bottom of the bottle instead of the side. It ruins the design, but if I peel it off, I have no way of knowing the color name. And please, Julep, apply the barcode/name sticker STRAIGHT! I don’t expect crooked stickers on $14 polish bottles:
With that said, the bottle is definitely unique to the brand and I think it’s a cute look!
Julep Emilie is a soon-to-be-released Fall 2011 color and will retail for $14 on Julep.com. I purchased my bottle as part of the?. Read my Julep Maven review here or join . (Disclosure: these are referral links that provide me $15 Julep credit when you join Julep Maven.)
P.S. I can’t stop watching the Chanel Shade Parade!
