Originally released in spring 2009, Vendetta ($25) was considered an unusual release when other companies naturally veered toward nail polishes depicting spring flowers and pastel hues. Vendetta has since been added to Chanel’s permanent Vernis line, making it available any time of the year.
It’s just as well; dark, vampy polishes are one of my favorite lacquers that I would wear regardless of the season! Vendetta has enough sparkle to hold interest, but also satisfies a creme lover like me.
Oh, and it is just like Edward Cullen from the Twilight series! Really! Let me show you.

When Vendetta is not under direct lighting, it is a creme-like eggplant purple with a metallic sheen. Shimmer particles aren’t noticeable unless I hold my nails up to my face. The more you layer, the darker it gets; I applied 2 coats for even coverage and the result is a nearly black purple. You may be able to apply just 1 coat, which would yield a lighter purple, similar to the bottle color, sans shimmer.
Its formula is typical Chanel Vernis, watery and runny compared to the creamier, thicker formula of Dior Vernis. I personally find that the runny consistency, coupled with Chanel’s long, thin, floppy brush, makes it difficult to precisely apply and shape around the cuticle, but it glides on more easily down the nail compared to creamier polishes.

And this is where Vendetta pulls an Edward Cullen. It’s a vamp(ire) in the shade, but sparkles like diamonds in the sun! But unlike Edward, Vendetta doesn’t have to keep this attribute a secret and you don’t have to take your human girlfriend to out to a hidden meadow to show her how prettily it shines. In fact, it’s a must that you take it out in the sun (and in public!) since it’s otherwise very shy about showing its pink and blue shimmer. Oh, and if the above reference to Twilight made no sense to you, consider yourself lucky.
Do you like vampy colors? What about Twilight?
